Original art by Anna & April on a 9×12″ canvas

Art is an enrichment activity offered to our residents. Some chimps enjoy it, while others prefer not to. The choice is theirs to make.

About the Artists

I arrived at Save the Chimps in April 2023 after the Ohio Department of Agriculture awarded the sanctuary custody of me, April, Cash, and Lucy. I was the first to enter our new home, immediately running the length of the play yard and exploring the upper level. We settled in quickly, embracing and grooming each other while greeting the sanctuary staff. One of my favorite things is the variety of enrichment we’re offered, especially bamboo toothbrushes and scarves. After completing quarantine, we began the process of integrating into Seve’s family, spending time with new friends and building relationships.

I’m an intelligent and curious chimp, always eager for a mental challenge and quick to learn new things. I love scarves, using them in playful and creative ways, and I’m extremely loyal to my friends. On the island, you’ll often find me using the ropes to climb to the highest parts of the structures. I have a playful side, especially with my human caregivers, and I’m always attentive when grooming my chimp friends. I engage with enrichment activities frequently, particularly anything water-based like misters and bubbles, or items I can wear. Each day, I embrace new opportunities to play, explore, and strengthen my bonds with others.

I arrived at Save the Chimps in April 2023 after the Ohio Department of Agriculture awarded STC custody of me, Anna, Cash, and Lucy. We settled in quickly, embracing and grooming each other while warmly greeting the sanctuary staff. One of my favorite things is my pink stuffed monkey, which I love to carry around, often draping it across my back as I walk. After completing quarantine, which is standard for new arrivals, we began the process of integrating into Seve’s family. Each day, we spend time with new friends, building relationships so that someday we can live with the full group and have full-time access to the island.

I’m an intelligent and social chimp who loves meeting and interacting with others. During introductions, I made fast friends with nearly every chimp I met, always quick to embrace them. Exploring my island home for the first time, I excitedly ran from structure to structure, enjoying the wide-open spaces. I have a soft spot for blankets and stuffed animals and can be a bit mischievous—sometimes dropping my toys on the care staff’s heads if they pass under the overhead tunnel! Most of my time is spent interacting with my family members, and I love being surrounded by my growing chimpanzee community.
